Surviving Montreal Rush Hour
Tips for navigating the metro during peak commuting hours.
When is Rush Hour?
Morning rush: 7:30-9:00 AM. Evening rush: 4:30-6:30 PM. The Orange Line between Montmorency and Berri-UQAM is the busiest segment. If possible, travel before 7:30 AM or after 9:30 AM.
Best Strategies
Position yourself at the ends of the platform where cars are less crowded. Let passengers exit before boarding. On the Orange Line, consider taking the Green Line to Lionel-Groulx and transferring, it can be less packed than the direct Orange Line route.
Alternative Options
The REM is a great alternative for North Shore commuters (Deux-Montagnes direction). For West Island commuters, the REM or Exo Line 1 (Vaudreuil-Hudson) avoid the congested Orange Line entirely.
